Under general supervision of a designated Supervisor/Manager/Director is responsible and accountable for overall operations of laboratory Point of Care testing program. Implements, monitors, coordinates, trains and maintains safety, quality and documentation of Point of Care testing program to meet personnel and regulatory requirements. Provides for the orientation, training, quality testing, and annual competence for personnel engaged in collecting, testing and documenting the analysis of blood, urine and other body fluids in order to provide accurate diagnostic information to the provider. Expert knowledge of general laboratory procedures and techniques for obtaining specimens, equipment utilization, regulations governing, trouble shooting, computer systems and follow-up for laboratory Point of Care testing functions. Ensures provision of high quality services in compliance with policies, regulatory and third-party payer requirements. Responsible for overall laboratory point of care testing quality, staff competence, regulations, supplies, cost-effective operations and properly functioning equipment. Monitors and maintains equipment to ensure all quality assurance directives are met. Audits and closely monitors all incident reports and quality control reports. Assesses reports to identify areas for improvement and implements improvement processes utilizing team work process improvement activities. Establishes, edits, reviews and maintains policies and procedures related to Point of Care testing to ensure the facility is compliant with all regulations imposed by government, TJC, CAP and other accrediting/regulatory agencies Performs other duties as assigned.
Experience, Education and Training Minimum: Certification as a Medical Technologist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Laboratory Scientist in all areas of the laboratory by the Board of Registry of American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or National Certification Agency (NCA) required. Knowledge of chemistry, biology, mathematics, hematology, microbiology, serology, medical laboratory principles, standards, applications tests, safety, equipment and regulations at a level normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science/Medical Technology, which includes successful completion of a supervised clinical internship. Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with physicians, nursing personnel and other clinicians while reporting and explaining test results, gathering information, etc. Approximately two years of laboratory experience is required in order to gain knowledge and proficiency in performing procedures. Analytical skills necessary in order to interpret and analyze routine test results, and determine appropriate course of action for abnormal or atypical results as it relates to normal health states and to presence of disease or other conditions which may alter test results. CPR Training required and/or must be obtained within 90 days of hire.

Under the general direction of the Medical Director, Department Director/Manager performs diagnostic and technical procedures and assists physician in all aspects of cardiac invasive and non-invasive testing, diagnostic laboratory tests and procedures following established policies, procedures and regulations; educates patients and families; oversees the daily operation of the cath lab; participates in research projects; maintains cath lab and other diagnostic equipment; initiates on-going quality assurance; maintains cath lab regulatory requirements (The Joint Commission); establishes and updates cath lab policies and procedures; ensures continuing education requirements.
Experience, Education and Training Minimum: Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Technologist or completion of cardiac invasive technology program and obtain Registered status within 90 days of employment or Registered Nurse (RN) with 1 – 3 years related work experience preferred. Knowledge and skill in invasive procedures protocols, equipment and instrumentation specific to cardiac invasive procedures preferred. Interpersonal skills necessary for effective communication with physicians, nursing personnel and other clinicians. Current CPR certification required. ACLS and PALS certification preferred and obtained within 12 months of employment and maintained.
